L&rsquo;arm\u00e9e am\u00e9ricaine va passer aux essais en vol de son programme ABL de destruction des missiles par laser\n<\/p>\n<p>Un Boeing 747-400 est \u00e9quip\u00e9 d&rsquo;un bulbe d&rsquo;un diam\u00e8tre d&rsquo;environ trois m\u00e8tres, seule partie visible du programme ABL (AirBorne Laser) de la Missile Defense Agency (MDA) de l&rsquo;arm\u00e9e am\u00e9ricaine.<\/p>\n<p>Dot\u00e9 d&rsquo;un budget de 1,1 milliard de dollars, le programme ABL &#8211; surnomm\u00e9 en interne SPACE.com &#8211; est un laser destin\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9truire les missiles en vol. Il r\u00e9unit la MDA, Boeing qui fournit l&rsquo;avion, l&rsquo;\u00e9quipage technique et le syst\u00e8me d&rsquo;int\u00e9gration, Northrup Grumman qui d\u00e9veloppe le laser et Lockheed Martin qui r\u00e9alise la coupole.<\/p>\n<p>Dans cette derni\u00e8re, qui ne laisse rien para\u00eetre de son contenu -secret d\u00e9fense-, ABL utilise la technologie laser COIL (chemical oxygen iodine laser). Trois autres lasers et six senseurs infrarouge d\u00e9tectent, suivent et visent la cible ennemie.<\/p>\n<p>Six modules COIL, chacun de la taille d&rsquo;un v\u00e9hicule de sport, combinent hydrog\u00e8ne, oxyg\u00e8ne et des sels pour fabriquer un composant volatile vingt fois plus visqueux que l&rsquo;eau, du p\u00e9roxyde d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne basique, afin de fournir ensemble la puissance n\u00e9cessaire pour la &lsquo;mise \u00e0 feu&rsquo; des particules du faisceau laser.<\/p>\n<p>Le laser, qui se propage \u00e0 la vitesse de la lumi\u00e8re, est l&rsquo;arme de guerre la plus rapide, au-del\u00e0 de tout ce que les armes humaines ont pu r\u00e9aliser jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent. Face \u00e0 un missile \u00e9voluant \u00e0 mac 6 (6.437 km\/h), ABL pourra le d\u00e9truire \u00e0 une distance de 160 kilom\u00e8tres. <\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;objectif de l&rsquo;arm\u00e9e am\u00e9ricaine est de d\u00e9truire en priorit\u00e9 toute menace de missile au moment o\u00f9 elle est la plus vuln\u00e9rable, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire au moment de son envol.
